A maintenance workshop built over the tracks in four days.
UK rolling stock manufacturer — Midlands site.
A 250 m² insulated workshop spanning the existing track, replacing a leased building lost to another tenant — built in four days, with trains running straight in and out.
- Client: UK rolling stock manufacturer
- Sector: Rail, industrial & maintenance
- Product: Lightweight Insulated Building, thermo-inflated PVC roof
- Scope: Over-track workshop, composite walling, electric roller shutters, lighting, guttering
The requirement
The requirement for a train maintenance workshop came from a UK-based client specialising in the manufacture of rolling stock. Part of their operation depended on a leased workshop building on their Midlands site.
When the lease of that building was taken over by another company, they lost their covered working area — and needed an alternative fast, or maintenance work on the rolling stock would simply stop.
The replacement had one non-negotiable requirement. It had to be built over the existing track, so trains could be transferred in and out of the workshop directly, exactly as before.
The solution
- 10.00 m wide x 25.00 m long x 6.20 m side height, spanning the existing track
- Two electrically powered roller shutter doors and a single pedestrian access door
- Insulated composite wall panelling with an inflated thermo-insulated PVC roof, in industrial-grade white PVC coated fabric
- UPVC guttering including downpipes
- Internal lighting scheme to standard operational requirements
Designed, manufactured and delivered in a few short weeks, then built in just four days — minimising both on-site disruption and overall project lead time.

The benefit
Because a fast turnaround was essential to avoid downtime, the client benefitted from engaging HTS Industries early — as the OEM (Original Engineered Manufacturer) of lightweight aluminium-framed industrial buildings, rather than a reseller.
HTS offers a range of industrial lightweight buildings suited to exactly this purpose, and has delivered many to clients across the country. That experience meant the client could be advised immediately, without the delay of intensive research or cost comparisons — a meaningful saving when the workshop was already gone and the work was already waiting.
It also mattered what was delivered. Some temporary building suppliers offer ex-hire stock, with mismatched components and expired warranties. HTS supplies only brand new, factory-ready workshops, buildings and canopies as standard, with full warranties on main components and installation works.
All designs are engineered and manufactured in-house, ensuring a high-quality structure, seamless project delivery and assured after-sales service.
