A sorting canopy built in three days, on a depot that never stopped.
UK county council — waste and recycling depot refurbishment.
A 300 m² industrial canopy with load-bearing reinforced side walls, giving covered storage for recyclate ahead of sorting — erected in three days without interrupting depot operations, and in place for the 24-month refurbishment programme.
- Client: UK county council
- Sector: Waste, recycling & public services
- Product: Industrial Lightweight Canopy
- Scope: Load-bearing walling, single-layer PVC roof, wind bracing
The requirement
The client, a UK county council, was in the process of a major refurbishment at their busy waste and recycling depot.
Alongside a recent change in waste and recycling regulations, the council required additional canopies to cover all activities that were otherwise taking place in the open air. A fast solution was needed so that recycling products could be stored under cover prior to sorting.
The canopy also had to work as a piece of operational plant, not just a roof. It needed to allow easy access for large vehicles and machinery to operate freely inside the structure — which set both the clear height and the demands placed on the walls.
The solution
After a brief period of consultation and structural requirement analysis — driven by the load-bearing capacity required against the side walls — HTS Industries designed, manufactured, delivered and installed the canopy to the following specification:
- 20.00 m width x 15.00 m length x 6.20 m side height, accommodating large storage capacity and the movement of tall machinery
- 40 mm UPVC steel-reinforced walling panels to the side walls, engineered for the loads imposed by stored material
- Single-layer PVC roof covering, complete with wind bracing, as part of a basic overhead canopy package
A canopy specified around what would be pushed against it, not just what would sit under it.

The benefit
The HTS Industries installation team built the canopy structure within just three short days, without any disruption to the client's busy site operations.
That matters more here than on most sites. A council waste and recycling depot cannot pause — collections arrive on a fixed schedule regardless of what is being built. Thanks in part to the modular nature of the structure and precise, efficient installation practices, the team caused very minimal disruption to recycling operations throughout.
The canopy will remain on site for a period of 24 months, while further refurbishment takes place across the council facility — covering the regulated activities for the full duration of the works, and demountable afterwards.
